ABOUT REFLEXOLOGY

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle and soothing complementary therapy based on the principle that we have reflexes in the feet (and hands) that correspond to every organ, gland and system in the body. Therefore, our feet and hands are believed to be a map of the body.

It is performed by applying small amounts of pressure, by gentle massage, to the reflex areas of the feet. This massage helps to smooth away any areas of congestion or tension from the reflex areas to give a feeling of deep relaxation and this may help to promote healing within the body.

What Conditions Can it Help?

It is believed that reflexology may benefit many common ailments and conditions, such as:

  • Headaches and migraine
  • Back problems
  • Sinusitis and asthma
  • IBS and other digestive disorders
  • Insomnia
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Stress related disorders
  • Pregnancy and infertility treatments

    What Benefits can be Expected?

As reflexology is an holistic therapy - treating the whole person and not just the prevailing symptoms - it may have a beneficial effect on the whole of the body. The principal aim of reflexology is to help bring the body back into a state of natural balance or homeostasis, which may then enable the body to heal itself naturally.

    Other benefits may include:

  • Clearing of toxins and waste products naturally
  • Easing of stress and tension
  • Promotes a feeling of deep relaxation
  • Improves cardiovascular and lymphatic circulation
  • Stimulates nerve impulses to the brain
  • Improves the immune system
  • Restores energy levels

Please note, a Reflexologist cannot diagnose, prescribe or claim to cure.
